The Order of the Knights Templar was not only made up of the brothers of the Order. The Sergeants who orginated from the lower classes of the society of that period also played an important roll and were employed to perform various taks throughout thr circle of the Order. The Templar Sergeant wore unifroms composing of black tunics and cloaks with the red cross of the Order emblazed on the tunic. The red cross was conceded to the Templars by Pope Eugenio III (prevailing from 1145 to 1153) and was a symbol of martyrdom.
