Private – 1st Battalion Gordon Highlanders, Le Cateau 1914

It was an under-strength and exhausted 1st Battalion that turned and faced the German army in the stopping action at Le Cateau, but still the Regiment fought valiantly.

Pictured in typical highland dress of 1914 the Private of the Gordon’s is wearing the Scottish cut tunic with the kilt apron.

Webbing and kit is as of the rest of the British army of the period, with 1908 pattern kit and SMLE rifle.

The figure is posed ‘at ease’, ready for the harsh fighting ahead.
